The Veil
The Veil is a metaphor for the tangible object as a witness. The mixed-media project explores the lace curtain as a ‘net’ that catches and holds memory. Working with archive material and alternative processes, the installation portrays the symbolism of the lace curtain as a witness of the human condition. The cyanotype-printed images represent memories ‘caught in the net,’ forever embedded in its stitching and threaded into the fabric of the home.
The Veil is part of an ongoing body of work exploring the spiritual and uncanny quality of household objects of Eastern European cultures and the way they act as vessels carrying collective memory, grief and intergenerational trauma.
Installation presented at the Trace(s) exhibition in Strangefield, Glasgow.
